The Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Mumbai (BARC) in association with the Nuclear Power Corporation of India Ltd., Surat (NPCIL) celebrated the Diamond Jubilee of Department of Atomic Energy, Government of India, by organizing a Seminar and Exhibition at School of Science and Education, B.Sc. Program, Navrachana University, Vadodara (NUV) on 25th and 26th August, 2014. The event was part of BARC’s initiative of public awareness programme to reach out to academic institutes, R&D institutions and industries across the country. These programmes in academic institutes facilitate a multiplier effect by providing authentic technical information and exposure to the Faculty members, and also help young graduates to make an informed decision to join the atomic energy programme.
Under this science outreach programme, BARC held one of the sessions at NUV. The program was of two days. During this BARC organized a seminar on the theme “Nuclear Technology: Shaping the Future of the Nation” and two day exhibition which included Poster Gallery, Interactive Models, Information Kiosks and AV presentations.
The two day event started at 10:00 AM on 25th August, 2014 with inauguration by Padma Shri Dr. M. H. Mehta, who began his career at BARC before joining GSFC, Baroda. The inaugural session was opened with the words of Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore followed by welcome speech by Ms. Tejal Amin, Chairperson, Navrachana Education Society (NES) and Presentation by Chief Guest Mr. R. J. Patel, Distinguished Scientist & Head, Refuelling Tech. Division, BARC. Mr. P. M. Shah, Chief Project Engineer, Mithi Virdi Nuclear Project, NPCIL, also graced the occasion with his presentation. Other distinguished speakers for the seminar were, Mr. R. K. Singh, Head, Media Relations and Public Awareness Section, BARC, Mr. Naresh Kumar Garg, Scientist, NPCIL and Mr. Jay Shah, Scientist BARC.
The seminar hall having capacity of more than 200 was packed with distinguished invitees during the whole inaugural session. The eminent personalities present in the audience included Dr. K. K. Thakker, Trustee NES, Mr. Pradeep Sinha, Trustee NES, Ms. Sandhya Gajjar, Trustee NES, Ms. Shubhalakshmi Amin, Member of NES Management Committee, Prof. Abir Mullick, Provost & Vice – Chancellor, NUV, Deans, Schools of NUV, Faculty Members, Students and Teachers of different schools across Vadodara. More than 2000 students of Twenty Seven (27) different schools from Vadodara participated in the seminar and exhibition. |
